Detail
Jeppson's Malört is the neighborhood beskbrännvin (a bitter Swedish schnapps made with wormwood) in Chicago. Wormwood was first discovered in the Middle Ages and is thought to have therapeutic properties. It is most closely linked to the farms of Skåne, Sweden, where it grows naturally. It was the most popular beverage in Sweden during the beginning of the 20th century, and it traveled with around a million Swedes who emigrated to the US during that time. Carl Jeppson, a native of Ystad, Skåne, was one among those emigrants.
